In the natural
reserves and forest of Matanzas province you be able to observe
termite nest as shown as the above picture. Termites are often
compared to ants and known as white ants but have nothing to do
with ants. Termites feed themselves mostly on dead plants as dry
wood. Termites are mostly found in tropical and subtropical
regions as in Cuba. Termites are insects living in colonies. The
termites are white and can’t move as quick as ants, they have
shorter legs, are softer and fatter than real ants. On the
picture you can observe some of the termites going out of their
nest probably to look for food. Each termite from the colony has
a work to do. Some are known as termite workers and others as
soldiers. Australia is a place where you can find spectacular
nest of termites in some regions mainly in the Northern
Territory. |
