This is a
picture of the Chinatown of Havana, known to the Cuban as the
Barrio Chino. As in every country in the world, Havana has also
its Chinatown where tourist and Cubans will find Chinese
retailers with Chinese products and Chinese restaurants where
visitors can have a nice meal. In the Chinatown of Havana is
mainly found the Chinese Cubans and their families. In the
younger Cuban Chinese generation there are lawyers, doctors and
engineer. The Chinese doctors of Cuba are introducing
acupuncture. The tradition of the Chinese in Cuba is getting
lost as there are more and more mixed marriages. Visitors can
assist to the Barrio Chino Parade when they visit Havana during
the right period. There is in Cuba only one Chinese newspaper
which is of course located in Barrio Chino Havana. The newspaper
is known as Kwong Wah Po. It is a weekly newspaper serving
around one thousand people. The Kwong Wah Po receives the
support of the government who is trying to preserve the Chinese
culture in Cuba and also its history. So when you are visiting
Havana just have a look to the Barrio Chino of Havana. |
